A proper British seaside resort in decline and proud of it. Amusements, fish and chips, mobility scooters, the pier, the seafront. Less visited than Southend but equally photogenic - quieter, older clientele, more melancholy.

Best time: summer weekends. Bank holidays.

Look for: the pier and seafront amusements. The older visitors who've been coming here for fifty years. The contrast between faded grandeur and current reality.
